Communicating Sustainability

It is a big challenge to inspire and motivate people towards a more socially and environmentally responsible behavior. In my master’s thesis I did a research on behavioral change, environmental psychology and sustainability and combined those with modern communication strategies. The purpose was to develop a new creative communication process serving NGOs and other public organizations. Using the new process, they could easily and efficiently approach specific sustainability issues through interactive communication campaigns.

The Toolkit

To make the new process easier to learn and apply I created a toolkit. It contains a process overview,  a guide, several method cards and worksheets. Those should be used during a 3-5 days workshop with a similar workflow concept as those of common design thinking or service design workshops.

Design & Process Overview

Communicating sustainability isn’t a perfectly linear process. In order to facilitate it, I divided it into 15 work-steps. Every work-step is characterized by a different color. The imaging as a design element should stimulate an unconventional way of thinking, avoiding Bio- and Eco-Design clichés.

If you are interested in sustainability issues and want to impact people’s behaviour, you can download all the working materials below (available in German language only). I hope my work will help you, so we together can make a positive contribution towards a better lifestyle.

Branding: Handmade Jewelry

FLYPI is my personal handmade jewelry brand. Distribution is not my focus but I really enjoyed designing and branding it.

The Life Story of Victor Gruen

As a part of the "World of Malls" exhibition in the modern pinacotheque of Munich, Germany, I had to create an informative and entertaining way to tell the life story of Victor Gruen - the developer of the first shopping mall, as we know it nowadays. For that purpose I designed six collages, all representing an important event in his life. Each one had an influence and formed his personality and also his creation - the shopping mall, the monster (as he calls it) of the industrial world.

World of Malls:
Architectures of Consumption

The exhibition took place from 14th of July till  16th of October 2016. It was a project of the Museum for Architecture Munich in cooperation with The Leisure Foundation in Berlin, the Technical University of Munich and the University of Applied Science Augsburg.

In Vino Veritas They Say

This project is about a corporate identity branding for the fictive winegrower Jean Jacques. It includes wordmark logo, envelopes, business cards, letterheads, flyer, magazines and posters, as well as packaging, give aways and the design of a wine etiquette.

A Bunch of Flowers
Full of Enjoyment

You can see the corporate design elements of the brand Jean Jacques fluently transforming themselves onto the etiquette of the red wine Palazzo della Torre, thus giving the brand a consistent visual appearance.

Japan - The Land of Contrast

During my master's studies I found inspiration in Japanese culture and their way of modern living. I designed two magazines. The first one is about Tokyo, its couture and street fashion industry. The second one is a manual for the Japanese culture - society, arts & crafts, religion and beliefs, cuisine and fashion.

SUM 2015

Rund.Um - Japan

Rund.Um was planned as a series of magazines about the culture in different countries. Its design illustrates the contrasting elements of Japan – spiritual calmness and modern kitsch.
